The words “VISA,” “MASTER,” and “EXPRESS” evoke international credit card brands while also referring to my own experience of migration. “MASTER” connects to my move to the United Kingdom for a master’s degree, while “VISA” represents the legal status I was repeatedly required to prove in order to remain there. Unlike global financial systems, which move freely across borders, the lives and movements of foreign nationals remain restricted by permits, deadlines, and documentation. The layered yellow and black surface, reminiscent of warning signs, reveals the pressure and uncertainty beneath the anticipation of building a life within a new culture.
